Twin Peaks VR Review (Steam)

Twin Peaks VR is the only official video game based on Twin Peaks, and it’s so obscure that I only discovered it while browsing through Backloggd, even though I’m a huge fan of both Twin Peaks and David Lynch’s filmography. I’ve watched the first two seasons twice, genuinely enjoyed the third season, and even viewed the Fire Walk With Me special cut with deleted scenes.

Despite its obscurity, this feels like a proper Twin Peaks game approved by David Lynch himself, not just a licensed fan project. The signature weirdness, small atmospheric details, and intriguing interactions are all present, capped off by a genuinely cool boss fight at the end that fits the series perfectly.

As one of the early PCVR titles, its graphics still hold up fairly well. The game draws heavily from Season 3, which makes sense given that it was a Showtime release tied to the revival. For a fan like me, it’s incredibly exciting to explore iconic locations like the Twin Peaks Police Station and the Black Lodge.

The major downside, however, is the game-breaking bugs. I was forced to restart the game twice and replay two levels due to issues that occurred without any suspicious player behavior: once in the Black Lodge, where moving a curtain aside locked me inside a room with no way back, and another time when I fell through the floor into an endless void while climbing down a ladder. Fortunately, it’s not a long game (only six levels total), so replaying them wasn’t too much of a nuisance.
